Vivienne Kelly Vivienne Kelly was born in Münster, Germany in 1979. She came to Australia in 1980 and spent her childhood in Armidale and Sydney (NSW) and Hobart, Tasmania. She moved to Brisbane in 1989. In 2006, Vivienne completed her Bachelor of Photography with First Class Honours at the Queensland College of Art (QCA), Griffith University, Brisbane.

Vivienne is a Photographic Artist. Her work is featured in the latest edition of Silvershotz – International Journal of Fine Art Photography/Vol. 6 Ed. 3. Vivienne's photographs are featured in this years Queensland Festival of Photography. Her most recent 'solo' exhibitions include, 'The Red Tide' held at Joel Fine Art, Brisbane, as part of the Queensland Festival of Photography, 2008. Her photographs were also exhibited in the 'Starter Space' Queensland Art Gallery (QAG) 2007 - 2008, and the exhibition 'Photomorphogenesis' held at the Queensland Centre for Photography (QCP), in 2007.

Early influences in Vivienne's life reveal the initial inspiration behind her photography. Her father is an academic specialising in the area of photosynthesis, the process where plants use light from the sun to power their growth. During many visits to the CSIRO Marine Laboratories in Hobart, she would land at the work station of family friend, Gustaaf M. Hallegraeff who was studying and photographing the microscopic algal plankton from ocean waters using an electron microscope.

Born of a Peruvian mother (and with a grandmother descendant of the Incas) emphasis was also placed on the 'power' of the sun through the worship of the Sun God 'Inti' who was at the center of the ancient Inca religon and mythology. Vivienne's marine structures are influenced by and often resemble and mimic the vessel and flute -like wind instruments of the ancient tribes of South America and this is also reflected in the titles of her works such as 'Aqua Flutes' and 'Mama Cocha' (Inca goddess of the Sea).

Vivienne's photographs record the glowing shadows of plant- and algal-like forms that she has constructed. Traditional photographic methods such as long and multiple exposures are adopted to allow her to move through the frame of her camera and physically illuminate her forms within the landscape. Her images synthesise the phenomena of photosynthesis and bioluminescence, the latter being the way that some microscopic sea-life have the ability to produce their own light.

Vivienne currently lives and works in Brisbane.
